Following the success of the Mizu no Oto – Sound of Water exhibition (FotoGrafia – Festival Internazionale di Roma 2011), 3/3 was invited by LWS Gallery to present a selection of photographs from Utsu’s Out of Ark and Hosokura’s Kazan.

A selection of Yumiko Utsu and Mayumi Hosokura books by artbeat publishers and the catalogue of the exhibition Mizu no Oto will be available at the gallery.


In mostra dal 18 aprile alla galleria Lucie Weill & Seligmann, Natures, fotografie di Yomiko Ustu e Mayumi Hosokura.

Little big press opens at b>gallery café the new season of its travelling bookshop

Una selezione dei più interessanti libri fotografici prodotti negli ultimi anni occuperà per un mese gli spazi del bookshop al primo piano della b>gallery café, dalle edizioni di Morten Andersen a Stephen Gill, a una serie di libri pubblicati da case editrici giapponesi come Akaaka e Little more alle fanzine appena arrivate di Bolo magazine e Talkinass/Antibtomic e molte altre ancora oltre a molti, moltissimi libri autoprodotti!

Little big press è una mostra annuale, una biblioteca e una libreria itinerante dedicata all’editoria fotografica indipendente e autoprodotta.

A selection of some of the most interesting photobooks produced in the last  years will occupy for a month the spaces of b>gallery café bookshop, from Morten Andersen to Stephen Gill, to a series of books from Japanese publishers, such as Akaaka and Little More, to the just arrived fanzines of Bolo magazine and Talkinass/Antibtomic, and many many more together with a lot of self-published books.

Little big press is an annual exhibition, a travelling library and a travelling bookshop devoted to self- and indipendent photobooks.

A project started in 2010 with the aim to make circulate the good energies of self- and indipendent publishing both in Rome and in Italy through the permanent updating on what produced from many photographers and publishing houses, the possibility to look through a library with already more than 900 titles and the opportunity to buy books you can only see in rare occasions.

Il Little big press corner diventa una libreria itinerante legata a 3/3, uno spazio mobile dentro fiere e festival, con un calendario di eventi in librerie, gallerie e spazi espositivi ad hoc per valorizzare il self-publishing e l’editoria indipendente.

La sinergia con Officine Fotografiche non finisce qui e gli spazi di via Libetta rimarranno un punto di riferimento costante attraverso presentazioni di libri, case editrici e progetti editoriali.

From March on, the collaboration between 3/3 and Officine Fotografiche will evolve in new shapes.

The Little big press corner became a travelling bookshop linked to 3/3: a mobile space within fairs and festivals, with a schedule of events in bookshops, galleries and exhibition venues so to improve the culture of self and independent publishing.

The sinergy with Officine Fotografiche will keep going on and via Libetta venue will keep being a reference point for books and publishing houses presentations and for publishing projects.

Il lavoro creativo di Joachim Schmid non è incentrato sulla produzione di immagini, ma nel cercarle, selezionarle e comporle. Schmid usa foto già esistenti e le traspone in nuovi contesti creando così delle nuove immagini. Nei suoi primi lavori, Schmid ha usato foto strappate, cartoline di cui la gente si era sbarazzata, negativi trovati nei posti più disparati. Nel 1990, dopo aver fatto apparire su un giornale la pubblicità dell’apertura di una “Prima Collezione Generica di Foto Usate”, Schmid ha iniziato a ricevere migliaia di foto che avrebbero potuto essere buttate via. Oggi Schmid lavora con immagini catturate sullo schermo del computer. La sua è una ricerca critica sul tradizionale ruolo attribuito alla fotografia, nel suo mettere insieme memorie personali e collettive, e un’analisi visiva delle conseguenze degli archivi di immagini digitali e dell’impatto della fotografia come mezzo fondamentale dei social networks.
Joachim Schmid lavorerà con i partecipanti del workshop ai loro progetti trovando insieme i modi più interessanti per svilupparli.


Joachim Schmid’s creative work is not focussed on the production of photographs but in searching, selecting and composing them. Schmid uses already existing pictures and arranges them in new contexts to create new images. In his early works he used torn photographs, discarded postcards or negatives which he had found in various places. After an advertisement Schmid had published in the newspaper mentioning the creation of the “First General Collection of Used Photographs” in 1990 people even sent thousands of undesired photographs to him instead of tossing them away. Today Joachim Schmid uses screenshots of web images. He works on a critical examination of the traditional role of photograhy and how it tries to collect individual and collective memories. He also visually analyses the consequences of digital image-archives, as well as the impact on photography today as an essential tool of digital-social networking.
During the workshop, Joachim Schmid will help the participats to develop their projects in the most interesting ways.

I partecipanti potranno lavorare su progetti basati su album di famiglia, fotografie trovate, still da TV, immagini prese dal web o qualsiasi altra forma di immagine di cui si sono riappropriati.
I progetti potranno anche prevedere l’interazione fra proprie immagini e immagini trovate, lavorando sull’interazione dei due livelli.

Alla fine del workshop verrà allestito un muro con le stampe dei progetti approfonditi dagli studenti in questi due giorni.


Participants can work on projects based on family albums, found photograhs, TV stills, computer screenshots, o whatever kind of image they reappropriated of.
Projects can also be based on the interaction between a personal work and found images.

At the end of the workshop students will set up a wall with the prints of the projects they worked on during the two days of work.

Joachim Schmid è un artista che vive a Berlino e lavora con le fotografie trovate dagli inizi degli anni ’80. Il suo lavoro è stato esposto in tutto il mondo e fa parte di numerose collezioni. Nel 2007, in occasione della sua prima retrospettiva, Photoworks e Steidl hanno pubblicato la sua monografia, “Joachim Schmid Photoworks 1982-2007”. Nel 2008, i Rencontres d’Arles hanno presentato una sua mostra basata su foto trovate a Berlino nell’arco degli ultimi 30 anni. Nel 2011 ha curato con Clément Cheroux, Erik Kessels, Joan Fontcuberta e Martin Paar la mostra From Here On. Fa parte del collettivo di fotografi ABC.


Joachim Schmid is a Berlin-based artist who has been working with found photographs since the early 1980s. His work has been exhibited internationally and is included in numerous collections. In 2007 Photoworks and Steidl published a comprehensive monograph “Joachim Schmid Photoworks 1982-2007” on the occasion of his first retrospective exhibition. In 2008, the Rencontres d’Arles exhibited his work. In 2011 he curated with Clément Cheroux, Erik Kessels, Jjoan Fontcuberta e Martin Paar the exhibition From Here On. He’s part of the photographers’ collective ABC.

At Le Bal’s invitation, the 5th International Photobook Festival will be held in Paris in the documenta year 2012, where the photographic book will be the focus from 20-22 April. Apart from a distinguished program of lectures and a curated market place, the festival will also present the 2012 Dummy and Photobook Awards.

Su invito di Le Bal, la 5° edizione dell’International Photobook Festival si terrà nel 2012 – anno della Documenta a Kassel – a Parigi, dove i giorni dal 20 al 22 aprile saranno dedicati al libro fotografico. Oltre a un programma di conferenze e a uno spazio a cura di Willem Van Zoetendaal dedicato alla vendita, il festival presenterà anche il Dummy e il Photobook Award 2012.

Submit your unpublished photobook for a chance to win a complete book production. A preliminary jury will select the best 50 dummies from all entries for the exhibition at Le Bal. The winners will be chosen from this selection.

La presentazione di un libro ancora non pubblicato da la possibilità di vincere l’intera produzione del libro. Una prima giuria selezionerà i migliori 50 dummies da tutti quelli arrivati per una mostra a Le Bal. I vincitori saranno scelti da questa selezione iniziale.

Photographers are invited to present their so far unpublished photobooks to an international expert jury. The best 50 books will be exhibited as part of the festival in Paris. From these 50 titles, the winners will be awarded at the location. The first prize is a complete book production by publishers Seltmann+Soehne. The registrations costs are 32 Euros. Entries close on 31 March 2012. Entries for the Photobook Dummy close on 5 April 2012 (post marked).

I fotografi sono invitati a presentare i loro libri non ancora pubblicati a una giuria internazionale di esperti. I migliori 50 libri saranno in mostra a Parigi, come parte del festival. Da questi 50 titoli, saranno selezionati i vincitori. Il primo premio consiste nella produzione completa del libro da parte dell’editore Seltmann+Soehne. Il costo per partecipare è di 32 euro. Il bando scade il 31 marzo. I libri non possono arrivare più tardi del 5 aprile (fa fede il timbro postale).

The winning work will also be presented in the art magazine European Photography. The 2nd and 3rd prizes will be supplied by the festival partner blurb: the 2nd prize is books to the value of 500 Euros, the 3rd prize books to the value of 300 Euros.

Al libro vincitore sarà inoltre dedicata una sezione del magazine European Photography. Il 2° e 3° classificato riceveranno un premio da blurb, partner del festival: il 2° un premio in libri per il valore di 500 euro, e il 3° per un valore di 300.
